If you understand the game mechanics there are very few meaningful choices. Leveling up a character in Divinity always felt pretty bland to me. If your characters all have a couple movement impacting skills, and a buff or heal skill or two you can basically run circles around your opponents killing them with whatever color skills you find prettier. There are about 15 skills in the game spread around the different disciplines that really matter, the rest of the skills are interchangeable. After that everything starts to feel pretty similar. In Divinity you basically have two character classes, physical damage, and magical damage. I find the character building in Pathfinder to be far deeper and more interesting than Divinity. Story isn't a huge importance to me but if it has a good story, I won't complain. The fantasy story isn't entirely needed for me to enjoy the game (although I think it lends itself well to creative classses). My one gripe with Wasteland 3 is that the loot has "tiers" so once you have the tier 3 shotgun, all the tier 3 shotguns are the same (with their base stats at least, I know you can add mods to them). I prefer when the stats of items arent static. The randomized loot (to a degree) is also what I like. I prefer turnbased games over real time because it feels more like a game of chess to slowly think out a battle. Now go take these, try different combinations and make your own class". The game imo is one of the best at just saying "ok, here are the rules of our game. I go to Fextralife a lot just to look at their builds so I can get ideas about what to do with my character. Vendor Prices, Bartering & Attitude FormulaĪh I looked at Pathfinder and I actually have that one on my Steam wishlist already so I'm keeping an eye on it.Īs for what I like about DOS, it's mainly the combat, interactivity of the elements (I love how fire turns water to steam, clouds can be electrified, blood can be cursed, etc) and the customization of the classes.
